Cotabato City – Architect Gerard Lico, PhD, and Architect Marlo Basco, FUAP, recently visited the Old City Hall of Cotabato City to assess its current condition as part of the proposed restoration project that will transform the historic building into the Cotabato City Museum.
As part of the restoration plan, the architects and technical team examined the original materials used in the construction of the building to ensure that the restoration process preserves its historical and architectural integrity. Over time, visible cracks and structural deterioration have appeared, highlighting the need for immediate rehabilitation.
Personnel from the City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office and the City Engineering Office were also present during the site inspection to assess the required materials and estimate the overall cost of the restoration work.
The team is now awaiting the results of the inspection, which will determine the total budget necessary for the full restoration of the structure.
Once completed, the Old City Hall will serve as the City Museum, showcasing the rich history of Cotabato City — including its diverse cultural heritage, indigenous tribes, traditions, and the legacy of past leaders who helped shape the city into what it is today.
The project underscores the city government’s commitment to preserving Cotabato’s historical identity while promoting cultural awareness and education for future generations.
