COTABATO CITY – Together with farmers from Mother Barangay Tamontaka, personnel from the Office of the City Agriculturist demonstrated proper techniques in planting and cultivating RC 438 early-maturing variety seeds at the office’s 7,000-square-meter rice demonstration site.

The office shared best farming practices and proper cultivation methods for various seed varieties, based on knowledge gained from the Climate-Smart Farmer’s Field School (CSFFS) conducted in 2024 by the City Government of Cotabato in partnership with Conservation International – Philippines and MAFAR.

This initiative is a vital step in aligning farmers’ agricultural practices with the challenges brought by climate change. By using early-maturing rice varieties, farmers can harvest their crops sooner—helping them avoid losses from typhoons or extreme heat.

The NSIC Rc 438, also known as Tubigan 38, can be harvested 100–106 days after planting, ensuring both efficiency and resilience in rice production.
